Teaching at the right level
Teaching at the right level (TaRL) is an educational approach that aims to improve learning outcomes by targeting instruction at the level of each individual student. The approach recognizes that students come to school with different levels of knowledge and skills, and that teaching methods need to be adapted to meet their individual needs.
In TaRL, teachers assess students’ current levels of learning, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and tailor their instruction accordingly. This may involve grouping students according to their level of understanding, providing targeted interventions for students who are struggling, and challenging advanced students with more complex tasks.
TaRL is based on the idea that students learn best when they are engaged in activities that are neither too easy nor too difficult for them. By providing instruction at the right level, students are more likely to make progress and develop the skills they need to succeed.
TaRL has been implemented in a number of countries around the world, and has been shown to be effective in improving learning outcomes for students. The approach has been particularly successful in low-income countries where many students struggle to achieve basic literacy and numeracy skills.
